Meet our lovely friend Madison Dapcevich from madisondap

Hi Madison! Can you tell us about yourself and your work? Where are you based, and what inspires you?

As a science journalist and ocean explorer, I’ve investigated misinformation campaigns on social media, embedded with archaeologists at excavation sites in Alaska, and helped discover deep-sea organisms in the Central Pacific. But I’m most at home in Missoula, Montana, where I live on a small parcel of land with my two dogs, two cats, and five chickens.

What draws you to the outdoors, and how does it influence your work or perspective?

Growing up in Alaska, I never stood a chance of not being drawn to the outdoors. From a young age, I was hand-trolling for king salmon in Sitka Sound, and my love for wild places only grew as I moved around the country, from Montana to Northern California. I ski, mountain bike, whitewater kayak, and raft, and spend as much of my free time as possible outside. Writing about the natural world, then, comes naturally—it’s where my curiosity, experience, and passion intersect.

What's your favorite part of what you do?

Every morning, I wake up excited to go to work. I love telling stories about wacky people and wild places—and the ways those stories reveal something about each of us. Every perspective offers a new lens for understanding ourselves, our desires, and our dreams. Sharing those experiences with millions of viewers inspires me to keep building a life I’m excited to wake up and live every day.

Where can our community follow your work, read your stories, or learn more about your projects?

I'm an editor at Outside Magazine and Outside Online, as well as a communication lead aboard Exploration Vessel Nautilus. Those are two great places to follow my work, and of course, on social media! Here are my Instagram, FacebookTikTok, and LinkedIn profiles.
